Tracks left off of Child of God

All songs written and performed by Riese LaRose

--Liner Notes--

Little Things-
My final attempt in a series of recordings where I recorded vocals at the same time as guitar and bass. This was going to be consistent across the album but I gave it up as the sound bled too much and both my singing and playing suffered. However these songs have a more "live" feel and I'll point them out where they pop up. This one was very top-of-my-head and mostly improvised.

Privately Homosexual-
Also live vocals. This song was more fleshed out though as I had the idea for the song in the bath and recorded it the next day. I wish I had worked on the bridge more as I sound kind of out of breath on it. And it didn't need the scatting.

Sex Club-
I hadn't sung in a baritone register in a while, or sung much at all. So the vocals on this song suffered. The subject matter felt visceral though and I ended up releasing it as a single of sorts on Soundcloud. The "GO!" and solo at the end are cool.

Hell or Purgatory-
Dichotomy of a Christian concept of Hell and a Jewish concept of Purgatory. Also the first song I wrote for Child of God with a religious theme, which would later inform all the album's songs. This one was a little too on the nose though, and again used live vocals- though they work in the bridge.

Couch Philosophy (Podcast Version)-
A modern version of the original off my album Just Defiable (available on this bandcamp page! riesearchive.bandcamp.com/album/just-defiable) that I used for the podcast version of said webcomic. Thanks to Clovis for the podcast name and inspiration.

Liquid Love-
Completely separate from Child of God, this song was written and recorded to promote the eBook version of my novella Dense Thing. It features only vague themes from the book, and originally I was going to write more originals to promote it but the idea ran out of steam. The vocals are decent.

Real Sick Feeling- A song I stumbled onto futzing around on Instagram Live one day. It's clearly just a loop and there's nothing to do with it really but the recording sounds nice.

God's Favourite Femboy-
Featured on my TikTok along with Klungo as a "What If?" on musicians. This one posed the question of what if famed racist Morrisey wrote a song about femboys instead of doing whatever it is he does these days. My girlfriend likes this one.

Swinging' in the Sixties-
First song recorded for possible inclusion on Child of God. It's a continuation of a snippet John Lennon improvised in the new Peter Jackson version of the Get Back documentary. I was so inspired by said doc I wanted to record the whole album semi-live and call it Riese Gets Back. This never came to fruition, probably for a similar reason as to why Let It Be was shelved for so long- the concept is engaging to musicians but disapointing and alienating to listeners hoping to get something a little more... complete.

Klungo-
My first what if TikTok: What if Thom Yorke wrote a song using only lyrics from Banjo Kazooie (specifically Gruntilda)? Well, this is what you'd get. My first attempt at Radiohead's style.

Dorothée-
My first song for the second concept for Child of God- an all French album. Maybe it would have been called Enfant de Dieu? Who knows. This one is about an elderly woman I had to use as a reference to get a job at a retirement home. In the song I try to seduce her. Very french.

Reflecting Pool-
Song about my girlfriend. This version has more of a Miss Direct aesthetic. There were several different demos trying to get a grip on what the vibe should be for this track but nothing ever really came together.

Les Goules-
Second Enfant de Dieu song. This one is obnoxiously slow but I thought it would sound cool. It didn't, really. But I guess I like it enough to stick it here.

Stay in Bed-
The original prototype for "Christopher", the penultimate track from Child of God. Features similar themes but ends on "nobody wants me, i think i'll stay in bed".
