--Liner Notes--

So Cold-
One of the first songs written for First Love, and the one I was most excited about initially. The execution ended up being just barely not up to the standard of the other tracks, though. I was rarely able to see my partner at the time and was alone a lot so that's what the song is about.

Poizin Ear-
Little emo/punk/ska song about Hamlet. The idea was to have more diverse genres on First Love but this one just didn't fit. Its lyrics also concern the influence my ex still had on me.

Carrot and the Stick-
Kind of a reference to John Cale, one of my favorite Welshmen, especially "The Man Who Couldn't Afford to Orgy" Lyrically based upon the false empathy and smugness of concentrated power and influence. Carrots and Sticks become arbitrary means to an end when it's always about what is good for the few.

How Do We Know-
I recorded a quick phone demo of this in 2020 while recording Miss Direct. I slowed it down and rerecorded it for First Love but it didn't make the cut. It's clearly a neat song though.

Cloud of Delusion-
A song about a friend. A very messy record, a bit too much delay. The bass sounds cool though.

Cry Baby Cry-
A cover a long time coming. One of my favorites. I like the build. There's a music video version on my youtube channel: www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGzuGpZLHrI

Implode-
Recorded shortly after First Love. It's a good emotional song, would like to do another version of it some time. Could be a live staple if I could play live shows right now.

Just You-
Conceived (poorly) as an NFT back when making one seemed like a good idea. Would have had some pixel art monstrosity attached, I'm sure. The backing vocals ended up being hard to mesh with the lead. Certainly a bit overproduced and not the nicest sounding. There are a lot of ideas in here, though- at least 5 songs worth!

Clumsy-
Instrumental track left off Miss Direct.

Like a Lizard (Metal Redux)-
Metal version of a song released way back in 2013 when I was 16, on Newfangled Poppycock (available here:https://riesearchive.bandcamp.com/album/newfangled-poppycock)
This song was performed live a couple times by Heat Death, and was even on our first album. It was a fun one to play back in the day, and will certainly be played again when Heat Death reforms from the ashes.

Paid With Soul-
A little "Riese and her uke at 1:59AM" style number. Who knows what it's about.

Penis Is a Word-
See above. Also, don't ask.

You Won't Budge-
Very lofi song. I found my old 4-track recorder but forgot how to use it. This one was just a little test. But it's kinda cool.
