--Liner Notes--

Trapped-
A song I wrote while I was in a band called Carpool Fun. We recorded a few versions, but the base tracks of this version is from one I recorded by myself. Then I added the synths so I could potentially add it to Miss Direct. I even did a synth solo instead of the guitar one planned.
I wrote the song during a period of heavy gender questioning, this one being the one that lead me to transition. This confusion is reflected in the voice change from the verses to the bridge, as well as the lyrics.

NDT-
A very simple song about Neil Degrasse Tyson. I wrote it in the halls of the retirement home I worked at from 2019 to 2021, where I also wrote Steeltrap and others. I wanted a song with a spare, Billy Eilish-type production. This kinda gets ruined in the last verse.

High Noon in the Sky Room-
A song based on a really really slow recording that I then sped up so the lyrics flowed quickly but were hard to decipher because of the condensing process. This allowed me to reconsider what I thought the lyrics are. It's hard to explain. The song ended up being about heaven.

Arthur Pod (and the Name of God)-
The title of this song got reused on a Spak album. It's just a fun instrumental with a cool title.

Hate Song-
A cover I recorded a couple days after my first big breakup. I can't remember much from this period except for constant crying. I love Daniel Johnston. I just made his track a bit funkier.

Seasons-
Just a quick waste of time I made on my phone.

Surprises-
Another song from the earlyyy days of Miss Direct, when it was going to be a more typical folk/rock album. This is just a super early demo, the only reason I recorded it on multiple tracks was so I could get the lead guitar parts in. The song is about divorce.

WAP-
A Cardi B cover. I developed the melody in a very echoey stairwell at the retirement home, which gave it an almost ethereal quality in the demos I recorded there. There are some cool little production tricks here and there, and it combines the synths with the acoustic guitar well.

High Noon on Planet Earth-
A slightly sped up version of Skyroom with electric guitars and punk rock vocals. It also ends before the other version. Oh well, the ending was already pretty arbitrary.

Biddy Beat-
These lyrics are improvised, in case you couldn't tell.

A Higher Power-
Little song about God I recorded in my dad's basement. The recording had a very fun loose feeling to it. This is the song I remember enjoying recording the most of anything here.

This Place is Surely Hell-
One of the acoustic numbers I used to write weekly for open mics, much like Always Alone. This one probably would have closed out Miss Direct in a similar way to Always Alone if that hadn't become an electronic album.
I think I was very sick of a lot of aspects of my living situation and life in general at this point, and this was reflected in the lyrics.

End Games-
A song some guy commissioned me to record. He just needed this very basic sort of plodding electric guitar song. But it actually turned out well! I should do this sort of thing more often. There's this part at 1:48 that I really like a lot.

Bye!
