Songs left off of Suites Rousseau, Fantasy Massacre, and Road Trip.

-Liner Notes-

Alright, Thank You-
Inspired by my standard response to emails I would receive regarding voice acting projects at the time. In most cases I was not hired, but would still thank them. It's a phrase that got me where I am today, which isn't saying much. Kind of an early David Bowie thing musically.

Don't Do It, Charlie Brown-
One of only three songs I recorded at my dad's apartment in downtown Seattle, which I only visited rarely. The lack of real lyrics is probably why it didn't make an album, but it's not so bad. My stepmother is a big fan of Charlie Brown which inspired this track.

Pneumonia-
I think I got this confused with hypothermia. I don't know.

Living in the Sunlight-
A cover of a cover, drawing more inspiration from Tiny Tim's version. Features my creaky and weak falsetto, and another vocal a couple octaves down.

Quirks-
A potentially funny concept that I wasted no time in recording straight to my recorder, with no lyrics planned. Truly showcases my "dark" sense of humor, at that point thinking murder = funny. I do still hate the term "quirky" though.

Fuck You Hard Then-
General sexual apathy from a voluntary celibate. The electric merges well with the acoustic here.

Settle it in Smash-
Like "Ted Saga" from Thus Spend Nights Gloating, it was inspired and written for the comic Couch Philosophy, which was written by Clovis Wong. In this case it was written for one of the last comic strips we ever did. I still have some of my fondest memories doing that comic. I wish I knew more folks with minds like that.

Sitcom Mom-
Like "Quirks", it's the first take of a wholly improvised song. I'm not sure I had a mom in mind, maybe Marge Simpson or Lois Griffin as I don't watch many live action sitcoms. But really it was more from the perspective of a couch potato who gets jealous of the couch potato on his TV screen with an attractive wife.

The Ocean King-
The only completed track left off of Fantasy Massacre, a concept album which I planned very tightly and never recorded anything for which didn't fit the concept. This one focuses on Poseidon and continues the Greek/Roman gods theme while also being inspired by Pixies. The song is too long and plodding though, just not quite sure of itself.

Get Out Of My Shop-
This might have been around when I was getting into McCartney II. I have a lot of old songs with vocoder though so who knows. A neat little distraction.

Wooden Tub-
One of my most experimental tracks, wasn't really going for a melody or structure, just a sound that never fully materialized like I had it in my head.

Smooth Criminal-
My only Michael Jackson cover. He was already dead. Prominent accordion and not too much else interesting here.

Background Design-
A very relaxing tune and I really liked my lead guitar work here. Fairly jazzy and unpredictable. I like the "chorus" with all the guitar sliding.

Feelings for Me-
A lil french accent = romance.

Wellness Ensured-
I think this is another one in the style of CAKE a bit. Like Cuban Pleather Couch.

Laurel Holloman-
Intercut with samples from "The L Word"- a show I was watching a bit of at the time. I chose to focus on menstrual/hormonal issues.
