about

Features outtakes from the Riese albums Child, Just Defiable, and Sugar Sickness.

-Liner Notes-

I Am King-
Left off Child for not fitting lyrically. After I record an album I'll usually take a break for a few weeks and then record one or two little experiments and just mull on them for a bit before making a real effort at starting another album. This was that for Child. Sometimes those songs have made albums, though. Even something like 20 PWR, which was one of the best on that album.

I Wanna Be-
A version of this did find it's way to Thus Spend Nights Gloating, but sped up a lot, making it punk again. It was recorded long before any of the other material on that album though.

Foul Old Man-
Recorded shortly after I Am King. Just about the simplest sort of song one can write.

Dumb Animal-
This a capella version was recorded more as a demo for a real version that I never made than anything else. Lyrically it's based on a line from the YouTube series Skooks, there spoken by the famous Joker to Scooby-Doo.

And And Yeah-
A return to my synthpop roots. Just a little bit more refined but nothing exceptional here. The title is particularly uninspired.

I Got Nothin'-
Mostly improvised, but I had a few lines in mind when recording this. Just a decent acoustic number. The grammar here is suspect.

Gotta Run-
Some of that old trashcan drumkit I was doing at the time. The guitar sounds snappy I kind of like the production here. This would have fit easily onto American Elements if it had the right theming.

Underground Dream-
The song is just based on adding reverb to a harmonica. That's it.

Corey Kawaguchi-
I called a song on the Bainbridge Lo-Fi Demos "Corey Takanaga" based on a name I had heard the principal say over the speaker at Bainbridge High, only that name was actually "Kawaguchi". So here I used the real name. Don't sue. At the end here I mumble to myself about the roast of Donald Trump which had happened recently. Everyone should watch The Situation's (from Jersey Shore, remember?) part of it.

Icicles-
One of the first songs I wrote, before even the Shadow of Doubt EP. I recorded it way later and now it's included here for posterity.

Soul Body & Mind-
A little tribute to Jesse Ventura.

Died-
Cool organ here. The vocals are clipped to shit though.

My Den-
A song I had written a few years before, for The Nightfallen. I finally recorded it but it just wasn't that great. the little percussion thing on Verse 2 is kinda nice though. It's me shaking a little plastic container of Dungeons & Dragons dice.
